the premis: to photograph real (not just professionaly models) to show the beauty each woman, what ever shape or size!

Nudity is powerful, revealing and honest. This book features nude pictures of women in many shapes and sizes. Through this work we celebrate their beauty and individuality. It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words, typically these are words formed in the mind of the viewer. In an effort to offer the viewer something beyond the photographs, each woman will contribute her own words about herself and her experience posing. The combination of these elements offers the viewer not only the images of their body, but also a glimpse into their mind and spirit.
I'm a lighting designer, primarily looking for something to shoot for my portfolio, and when it comes down to it, I really just need shutter speed.
Most of my shots come from 20->60 feet away I imagine with that range I'm also looking for a zoom lens.
I've had the Canon recommended to me, and I'm currently using a Digital Elph so i'm familar with the interface.
The Canon is also cheaper for the body, but I can't find a real cost comparison for lenses.

any thoughts?

What could I be doing wrong? The flash I use is a Quantaray QB-350A, if that means anything to anyone. It's an attachable flash and one in which the angle can be adjusted and theres this little switch at the botton with 3 squares-one blue, yellow and then a white and I really don't know what they are for but I am wondering if that's got something to do with it. In any case I am sick of my night time pictures coming out so shitty so any advice will be gladly accepted. Thanks!

This info is from an email I received from the NPPA urging me to voice my opinion against the photography ban in NYC subways I have plagiarized the email here because I believe all photographers, all Americans, and anybody who wants freedom should stand up against a true threat from the terrorists, taking away the first amendment. Yes this does relate to us photographers south of NYC, first this ban WILL travel south, second if any of us travel to the rotten Apple we could get more than just parking tickets. A web address is listed below where you can voice your opinion, please do so. thanks jeff

New York's Metropolitan Transit Authority has revived its earlier effort to ban
photography from New York's subways and buses and the National Press Photographers
Association is asking all journalists to join in the fight against this proposed ban
by submitting public comments.

The change in MTA policy would make photography on the historic subway system
punishable by a $25 fine and/or up to 10 days in prison. Other banned activities
include smoking, jumping turnstiles and putting one's feet on the seat. This effort
to criminalize photography is presented as necessary in order to increase security
on the transportation lines and to prevent terrorism, although it would continue to
be legal to carry a licensed, concealed gun on the subway.

While the proposed regulations contains an exception for journalists with NYPD press
credentials, the NPPA supports right to free expression for all photographers, not
just photojournalists. We also believe that no government entity has the
Constitutional right to determine who is, or who is not, a journalist with First
Amendment protections.

In addition, because of the availability of hidden cameras and camera telephones,
this proposed ban will merely result in police wasting valuable time harassing
innocent photographers and tourists with visible cameras.

The photography ban, which NPPA has opposed since we first learned of the plan in
May 2004, was posted in the New York State Register on November 24. The official
public comment period has begun but it will end shortly, on January 10, 2005.

We encourage all of our members and other interested parties to submit comments as
soon as possible here:

http://mta.info/nyct/rules/proposed.htm

According to the MTA Web site, comments that have already been submitted will be
reviewed and considered along with the any new comments submitted during the
official comment period.

The NPPA believes this proposal represents a part of a larger, ongoing trend in the
United States and that it is important for all NPPA members to take action,
regardless of if they are a New York resident or not. Under the umbrella of
"fighting terrorism" we have seen government officials nationwide moving to limit
free expression, free speech, and free press. While such rights may often be
inconvenient for the government, we believe that they are essential to ensuring the
liberty and freedom that we enjoy in this nation.

It is always nice to have a model you have previously worked with request to shoot with you again. This update has two models that have returned for additional photography (Kami & Gloria), and a new model whom I'm sure to work with again (Leigh). In fact something new is already in the works.

Shot some self-portrait work, please excuse the poor choice of model.

Gloria's work includes new editions to my "Ethereal Muses" series and some interesting and challenging work shot during one of this summers frequent rains.

Kami's work includes new editions to my "Ethereal Muses" series, some deep woods nudes, and a lovely nude series among beached driftwood.

Leigh's also work includes new editions to my "Ethereal Muses" series. In addition there is some wind work using the same sheer fabric, lingerie set in a fantastic nature setting, casual fashion work, and finally the pier shoot I've been dying to do for over a year.

I saw the first half of the exhibit at ICP, was there about 2 1/2 hours. THe second half of the exhibit is at the Museum of Asian Arts. Since i had to get my afternoon shopping in with my sister I didn't make it to the second half. But will be returning to see it as I have the ticket and it's good through September. IT's $10 for non students, $7 for students.

I drove up with some friends and took the Dragon bus back. IT was only $20 for one way, I think roundtrip is $35. IT's through www.ebusticket.com

If you're interested in seeing the second half only you're welcome to accopmany me, as i have an extra ticket to it. My sister is going back to California so she won't using it. IT;'s good through September. If anyone is interested, let me know.
This link takes you to a website that was put together by a woman in Russia as a personal project. Her English isn't perfect, but you can pick up her points as you read through her journal of a motorcycle trip through the Chernobyl region. Very interesting photos and comments regarding how there are towns where time has stood still since 1986. I thought it was pretty interesting and thought you might as well.

So often I hear B & h this, B & H that. They're so great and cheap and don't chare sales tax out of NY. Well they are NOT Great. They rip you off.

1) They can charge lower prices on some items because they are selling Grey Market items. Camera's made for European sales are different than camera's made for USA sales. The manufacturer's warranty is void. If it breaks or goes wrong, you can not get it fixed.

2) Their items are NOT new in a box. Manufacturers seal their boxes. These packaged items contain what the manuifacturer wants the consumer to get when buying the item. B&H opens the boxes and wil ladd or subtract items, adjusting the price. So your camera maybe be $150 less, but now you have to spend $200 on a battery and charger that is supposed to come with your camera and now doesn't. And guess what, that manufacturer's warranty is now void because it is not " New in a Box"

3) No sales tax if you don't live in NY. Yes that is igreat but than they charge you high shipping fees. Most other companies give you free shipping. ANd if you're that concerned about paying sales tax, move to Delaware or another state that does not charge sales tax.

Within the next few years Kodak will cease to sell film to the US market, and only sell over seas.

As for camera's, Kodak releases "New" camera's that have lots of problems and break easily. They will than fix the problems (after people have bought it) and come out with an "updated" model that works really well. People who buy the updated model generally are happy with so what does Kodak do... they Discontinue it for a better "new" model with more problems.

As it is a discontinued model, it was only $129 for 3 megapixel camera. I took it out this weekend and it wasn't bad. Although it was very difficult going from a SLR to a point and shoot. As a gerneal rule I wouldn't buy Kodak cause they're crappy, but this will serve my needs. THe major difference is that the Fuji takes the XD cards while the Kodak takes the Compact Flash cards. Since I already have a flash card, i wasn't trying to buy an XD card. I liked it best when all the cameras wereusing the same digiatl film. How does everyone else feel about this?
